Advising
Academic advisors assist students with selecting courses that lead to the realization of their educational and career goals. They also help students schedule classes, stay on track to graduation and connect with resources.
Change of Major
A major is a specific subject area that students specialize in. Typically, between one-third and one-half of the courses you'll take in college will be in your major or related to it. When students no longer want to pursue a certain major, students can meet with an advisor to discuss different major options.
Add & Drop Classes
After an initial Class Schedule advising and registration, students may make changes to their schedule by adding or dropping classes. A student's permanent record and student account may be impacted by the timing of these changes.
Class Schedule Advising
Selecting class schedules each semester and planning long-term degree paths involves signing students up for courses and ensuring they stay on track with their degree program.
Career Counseling & Exploration
Career counseling is a service that helps people begin, change or advance their careers. It can include one-on-one conversations between an advisor and a career seeker, as well as assessments, activities and projects designed to help career seekers maximize their strengths.
Transfer Assistance
Advisors assist students in planning their transfer from Lamar State College Port Arthur to four-year institutions of higher education or to Lamar State College Port Arthur. Individual advising appointments can be made by students to assist them with identifying transferable courses and substituting other courses for college degree plans.
